Who We Are
The SCSU Husky Sports Band is a student organization that
provides musical support for St. Cloud State University's
athletic teams. The band was founded in 1923, making it one of
the oldest college pep bands in the country. The band has gone
through several periods of dormancy and revival over the years,
but it has been continuously active since 2006.
The band's first director was Carl Hall, who led the band until
1938. Hall was a respected composer and arranger, and he wrote
many of the band's early arrangements. The band's most famous
song, the "Husky Fight Song," was also written by Hall.
The band went through a period of dormancy in the 1940s and
1950s, but it was revived in 1960 under the direction of Robert
Olson. Olson led the band for 20 years, and he is credited with
helping to establish the band as a popular and respected part of
SCSU athletics.
The band went through another period of dormancy in the 1980s,
but it was revived again in 2006 under the direction of Glen
Tuomaala. Tuomaala led the band for over 11 years, and he helped
to make it one of the most successful college pep bands in the
country.
The band is currently under the direction of Lauren Husting.
Husting took over the band in 2021, and she has been working to
help the band recover from the challenges of the COVID-19
pandemic.
